“TLC:
Teaching and Learning about all forms of written Composition…
Practicing
what we teach: Writing for Diversified Needs and Applications”
The
Issue
We, teachers of all
genres of writing and composition, can agree that the types of writing
and purposes for writing have flourished in the wake of ongoing
technology development that requires us, and our students, to
communicate in a variety of ways for as many a purpose from “e-mail,
instant messaging, text messaging, personal Web pages, and blogging”.
(NCTE, 2007)
In a reflection of
the NCTE position on English instruction, the professors, faculty
members, and instructors of the State of Colorado’s, and surrounding
states’, community colleges embrace the research supported philosophy
that students can and do improve upon their writing as a lifelong
approach to processing information and learning of new information.
As a result, the
2008 5C’s has also adopted this approach by opening up requests for
presentations for sessions to support a diverse set of writing
instruction pedagogy, curriculum, research and integration of
technology.
Presenters who have
taught and researched in all areas of writing composition from
Literature to Writing and Research to Technical Writing to Creative
Writing, and more, will be needed to present on your designs to improve
the many ways in which we all teach and learn through a variety of
approaches to writing instruction.
The reason we need
to revisit our roots and implementation of our strategies is so that we
can continually learn and grow in effort to continue to present the best
possible instruction to all of our students. We need to be especially
cognizant of changes of students’ needs, changes in technology, and in
global uses of writing.
