| The project
mission is to
target non-traditional workers (women & minorities) for training
in the highway construction industry. To accomplish this we offer
bilingual (English/Spanish) training in basic construction,
flagging, CDL (commercial driver’s license) and heavy equipment.
Job placement assistance, mentoring and follow-up after placement
are part of the project’s services to ensure career longevity.
Limited support money is available to help participants overcome
barriers to training. Examples; money for childcare during
training, winter or safety equipment for placement. Placement can
be with a broad-spectrum of highway construction companies – from
paving, dirt movers, bridge framing, landscape reclamation; and
can be in positions ranging from laborer to bulldozer operator.
Intensive one-on-one work helps project participants decide if
this is an appropriate/attainable career path; at what level
should they enter; what are long-term career goals.
