U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, Dustin Turner

"Completing my associate's degree in Telecommunications through Aims distance learning was a wonderful experience.  The quality of the courses were excellent.  I was able to complete all of my courses conveniently at home."

Schedule

Most classes begin the first Saturday of each month.  Students do not have to wait for the beginning of a new term to register.  Official start and end dates are assigned and students have up to 15 weeks to complete each course.  Students are encouraged to take one course at a time since they can begin any time and can complete courses early if they wish.  This provides students an opportunity to make certain they enjoy learning by distance rather than committing to multiple classes at one time.  Students have up to two weeks following the start date to drop the course and return course materials with no obligation.

System Requirements

Computer with Windows 98 or higher, Internet access, and email.  Some courses require a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive and some courses require a VCR.

Testing

Most courses require the final exam  to be proctored.  A proctor may be a person who your company arranges to administer final exams, or you may make arrangements with a person who would be an appropriate proctor.  For example, you may make arrangements such as a librarian, a minister or priest, or a local school for someone to proctor your tests.  Most tests can now be taken on-line, although a proctor/test administrator is still required.  Click here to download a Proctor Selection form.

Transfer and Articulation

Aims Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  Courses that are earned at Aims will transfer to other accredited colleges if the courses you are taking are included in the program to which you are transferring.  Students who may be interested in transferring to another institution, either before or after completing their degree or certificate at Aims should keep in mind the following points:

All institutions reserve the right to determine their own transfer policies.

Students should check the transfer policies at the institution they are considering by consulting with the admissions office at the transfer institution.

Students who transfer should request that an official transcript be sent from each college attended to evaluate which courses are transferable.

Aims has official transfer articulation agreements with institutions which offer bachelor’s degrees through distance learning. Contact John Hutson 1-888-644-3451 or email john.hutson@aims.edu for updated information.
