ABC's of Weight Management

This six-week program is designed to help you achieve your weight goals and also reduce your risk for disease. Weekly seminars and group meetings provide the support, knowledge and skills you need to succeed.  Weekly lessons include: Week 1: Balance It Out. Do you have any idea how many calories you consume or burn everyday?  This week you will learn about the Energy Equation for weight management "Calories In" vs. "Calories Out".  You will also learn about metabolism and things you can do to boost your metabolism.  Week 2: Focus on Health and Wellness.  Do you know what your health risks are?  What can you do to lower your risk for certain diseases?  This week you will identify your specific health risks, and learn lifestyle modifications to help reduce these risks, including maintaining a healthy weight.  You will also learn how to set realistic health and weight goals.  Week 3: Getting Back to Basics.  What is the "best" diet plan?  Are there different types of fat?  Does the glycemic index of food matter?  This week you will learn the basics of a "healthy" diet and learn how food choices and eating patterns contribute to your wellness, energy level and weight management. Week 4: Dishing Out Healthy Portions Do you eat out often? Or serve family-style meals at home? If so, like most Americans, your portion sizes are too large. This week you will learn about appropriate portion sizes, and tips to help control/reduce overeating at home and when dining out. Week 5: Recipe for Success Are you too busy to cook “healthy” meals? Resort to fast-food or convenience foods often? This week you will learn how to plan ahead, and make healthy and tasty meals for you and your family. The key to healthful eating is planning! Participants are encouraged to share recipes and cooking tips. Week 6: Overcoming Emotional Eating & Barriers to Healthful Living Do you eat when you’re stressed or depressed? Reward yourself with food? This week you will identify your triggers for emotional eating and identify common barriers to eating healthy and exercising regularly. The group will discuss “do-able” solutions for overcoming these barriers and staying on the road to healthful living. This class is being funded by a federal grant “Steps to a Healthier Weld County” through the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment.

Cooking Healthy Meals Everyone Will Enjoy

Do you resort to fast food drive-ups or pizza delivery on a regular basis?  Most busy moms and dads believe they don't have time to prepare healthy meals, which is why the family eats too much fast food.  The long-term effects of this lifestyle choice is apparent in the dramatic increase in rates of diabetes across all age groups.  This program is designed for the busy chef in every family.  You will learn shopping tips and cooking techniques that will enable you to prepare tasty and healthy meals in minutes.  This class is being funded by a federal grant "Steps to a Healthier Weld County" through the Weld county Department of Public Health and Environment.

YOGA AND NUTRITION FOR THE BODY AND SOUL

This class focuses on well-being of the body, mind and spirit by integrating Vinyasa yoga with a healthful diet.  Vinyasa yoga is invigorating and improves strength, flexibility and balance.  Each pose can be modified to fit the student's ability.  Other benefits of yoga include reduced stress, and improved sleep, focus and awareness.  Eating a healthful diet complements the yoga practice by fueling the body and mind with adequate nutrients.  An adequate diet also reduces risk for disease and boosts the immune system.  Each class begins with a half-hour discussion on various nutrition topics, followed by an hour of Vinyasa yoga.  The primary goal of this program is to empower you to set attainable wellness goals, and provide tools to reach these goals.  The second goal is to provide an avenue for stress reduction and mindful eating by tapping into the principles of yoga, including breath, physical practice, internal awareness and meditation.  Please wear comfortable, stretch clothes and bring a yoga mat to class.   This class is being funded by a federal grant "Steps to a Healthier Weld County" through the Weld county Department of Public Health and Environment.  T
