Colorado Poets Study: Creative Writing |
|
In this class, students of poetry will read and discuss
contemporary Colorado poets and use them as examples and inspirations for
their own work. Similar to the way art students study the masters,
student-poets will discuss the poetic elements and themes used by well-known
Colorado poets in order to expand their own repertoire of ideas and
techniques. Students will read poets in order to expand their own
repertoire of ideas and techniques. Students will read poets such as,
James Galvin, Veronica Paterson, and David Mason. As Coloradoans, they
will resonate with the landscape and the lore, and they will learn that
poetry isn't only "back then" or "out there" - it's right here in Colorado,
right now. Katherine West has degrees from the University of
Missouri/Columbia and the University of Colorado/Boulder. She has
taught creative writing, literature and Spanish conversation. She has
also published a bilingual chapbook, a collection of dream poems with a
forthcoming collection to be released this year.
